Capital One Cup Final

Today is the day. The day I get to watch my beloved Sunderland play at Wembley, in a cup final. Something I never thought I’d see. But here it is! Win or lose, I’m so proud to be a Sunderland supporter today. Days like these don’t come around too often for us, and I will be savouring every minute of it. The walk down Wembley Way, which I last did 7 years ago when my dad took me too an England game. Sadly, my dad isn’t here to see us in the cup final, hopefully the lads can win it for him. Buying any piece of tatty memorabilia I can find, singing my heart out as the lads walk on to the pitch. I can’t wait.

Being my first cup final, I had to do something special with my nails, something which I have been planning since that emotionally draining semi final against Manchester United back in January. I ordered some water decal paper from craftycomputerpaper, along with some acrylic spray, organised the pictures I wanted in a word document (it took a few attempts to get them the right size!) and printed them on to the special paper, then sprayed it with three coats of acrylic spray.

The finished result isn’t perfect, I probably should have practised first, but I still love them!

Have you ever tried making your own water decals?

Derby Day Nails

Today was that day again, derby day. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know when it’s time for Sunderland to play Newcastle, I have to have red and white themed nails!

A little about the game first, because we won 0-3 (again!) Fabio Borini started the scoring with a penalty, followed by an Adam Johnson goal less than 5 minutes later. Jack Colback completed the scoring late on, securing our 3rd consecutive derby victory!

away-end

I’m up there, close to the line of orange stewards on the left!

0-3

It was my friends first away derby, I think he enjoyed it!

For my nails, I got my inspiration from pinterest, and used Julie G Hot Cinnamon, and OPI Solitaire.

I’ve got quite a lot to get swatched at the minute, mainly because of Models Own’s huge 50% off sale, and my massive haul! If you haven’t already, make sure you don’t miss out, even their new HyperGel’s are included! The sale ends February 4th.

Old Bond Street

I’ve had such a hectic week this last week! Last Tuesday, I went back to college, to start at Nail Tech course, 8 weeks for gel nails, followed by 8 weeks for acrylics. I could have cried when I was told I’d have to have a couple of my nails filed down to practise the tips on each other, even the girl filing them down felt bad! I’m trying to stick with my right hand so I can keep my left for my swatches! I don’t like wearing tips, and broke one off pretty badly last night, so I soaked the other off, leaving me with two very short nails 😦

Then, Wednesday. We travelled down to Manchester for the second leg of the Capital One Cup Semi Final, Manchester United v Sunderland. We were winning 2-1 on aggregate, and I think I went through every single emotion going that night! Just before half time, ex-loanee Jonny Evans scored, meaning that if we didn’t score, in normal time or extra time, United would go through on the away goals rule. Extra time came, and I could feel my Wembley dream slipping away, until the last couple of minutes of extra time, when Phil Bardsley scored against his former club, six years to the day since leaving them to join us. Bodies flying everywhere in the away end, we were going to Wembley, until about a minute later, when Hernandez scored, taking it to 3-3 on aggregate, and penalties (I’d lost total track of the score/away goals, and thought we were out at this point!) I certainly wasn’t looking forward to penalties, I only have bad memories from important penalty shoot outs, and it was time that changed. Obviously, being Sunderland, they missed the first two. Darren Fletcher gave United the lead, Alonso responded, Mannone saved Januzaj’s kick, Kiiiiiiiiiiiii scored. Phil Jones then missed his, meaning Adam Johnson could send us through, but De Gea saved. Thankfully it didn’t matter and Mannone saved Rafael’s penalty, sending us to WEMBLEY! Almost a week later and I still can’t believe I’m going to a cup final at Wembley, I’ve hardly stopped smiling!

Saturday, we had another cup game, this time the FA Cup 4th round, against Kidderminster, which was a terrible game, but an early goal from Charis Mavrias secured our place in the 5th Round.

All that has given me very little time to swatch, but I should hopefully get a few done this week! Before I started college on Tuesday, I got a tweet from BeautyBay to tell me I was one of their winners for their #ShowUsYourNails competition, and I won the Nails Inc Autumn Winter collection.

This is the first one I tried from the collection, Old Bond Street, and I am in love. A stunning deep inky violet blue, with a glossy finish. My pictures show three coats, but I could have gotten away with two.

Easter Nail Art

I hope every one had a good Easter! I’m a few days late with this post! I did these nails last Thursday, but I haven’t had time to blog about it! On Good Friday I had lunch with some of my family, Saturday I was at the Stadium of Light for Sunderland v Manchester United (after losing my season ticket!) then on Saturday night, our manager, Martin O’Neill was sacked! I was pretty gutted about that, I was over the moon when he got the job, but unfortunately it just hasn’t worked. I do think the timing was bad though, it either should have been weeks ago, or at the end of the season, hopefully we can stay up. Then Sunday, after watching the football with my dad, half my family turned up! My German cousin is over here visiting for a week with one of his friends, so I decided to take them (plus my other two cousins) for a quick look around the Stadium of Light, followed by a trip to the arcade!

Then on Monday, we appointed our new manager, Paolo Di Canio, which sparked a mass political debate, and was all over the national press. I know very little about politics, but agreed completely with one of Di Canio’s quotes; ‘We are not in the Houses of Parliament, we are in a football club.’ Regardless of his beliefs, I will continue to support my football team. As far as I’m concerned, he’s there to keep us in the Premier League, he’s not running the country. There’s a good article over at What’s Occurring? on the whole matter.

Tonight, my German cousin and his friend were at my house again, to watch the Bayern Munich game, along with my uncle, and one of my other cousins, and whilst half watching the football, I painted my cousins nails, with some blue ombre dots.

Finally onto my Easter nails! My inspiration came from Peachy Polish, and I used Models Own Beth’s Blue, Lemon Meringue, Jade Stone, Fuzzy Peach, Pastel Pink, Lilac Dream and Snow White. All apart from Snow White make up the Models Own Ice Cream collection.

Snowmen, Snowflakes & Southampton

For the weekend, I did some more Christmas nail art. I’m a little obsessed, and I’ve had my Christmas Day nail art planned for a few days! I didn’t want to do anything too fancy, so I went for a snowman accent finger, and snowflakes. I used Barry M Silver foil effects, Models Own Snow White, Models Own white nail art pen, and acrylic paint for the snowman.

On Saturday, I had a 4.30am wake up, followed by a 6 hour bus journey to Southampton, St. Mary’s being the 39th football stadium I’ve visited. Always nice to tick off a new one, even if it is 300 miles away!

Thankfully, the long journey was worth it, and Sunderland won 1-0, with another goal for Steven Fletcher!

Fletcher celeb

They were a very important 3 points for us, especially with some of the games we have coming up. It also meant we could have a bit of a Christmas party on the bus home, plenty of drinks and food, and songs!

Tomorrow I’m going to catch up with the remaining days of the Mini Mani Month, then relax for Christmas, I can’t wait!

Leopard Print

I’m back to being obsessed with leopard print! The other day I quickly did some leopard print on my ring finger, so I decided I’d have full on leopard print for the weekend. I couldn’t decide what colours to go for, so I went for multi coloured!

I used Models Own Snow White, Lemon Meringue, Lilac Dream, Nails Inc Notting Hill Gate, Kensington Park Road, George Smarty Pants, and the Models Own nail art pen.

Today, I was back at the Stadium of Light, but we got beat 2-4, so I’m not really going to talk about that, here’s a picture from the game!

But, there was a package waiting for me when I got back from the game, my Burt’s Bees Cuticle Cream! I couldn’t wait to try it out. ‘Nourish and moisturise nails and cuticles with this intensive, natural treatment. A touch of lemon oil makes your nails look and smell incredibly clean, healthy and beautiful, naturally.’

It’s lemon scent reminds me of lemon sherbets! It’s got quite a vaseline type consistency to it, rather than being like a hand cream. It’s also in a handy vaseline sized pot, so I can easily pop it in my bag when I go out. It’s not greasy, and absorbs into the skin quickly, and so far, I love it!

Nails Inc Lucky Dip

My latest lucky dip from Nails Inc arrived yesterday! As I mentioned in my previous blog, I was worried about getting the same as last time after a lot of other people had this problem, but luckily I didn’t. However, I did notice on the invoice it says ‘May 12,’ so Nails Inc have used the left over lucky dips, and I think they should have stated that they’d be doing that. On to the polishes, the polishes seem to have a very autumnal colour scheme about them, and they aren’t usually colours I’d gravitate towards, but that’s what I like about lucky dips, trying new things and maybe finding something you love.

All of the swatches shown are without top coat.

Brooklyn is one of three polishes inspired by the tv series ‘Mad Men’ and is a pearly nude, which has a purple-ish shimmer (seen in the third picture). Brooklyn needed three coats, but it dried quickly, with a glossy finish.

Fitzmaurice Place is a hot pink with a gold shimmer, it applied really well and I only needed two coats. It dried quickly with a glossy finish.

Madison Avenue is another polish from the Mad Men collection, a very deep forest green. Madison Avenue only needed two coats and dried quickly with a glossy finish. This definitely isn’t a colour I’d usually go for, but it’s a nice alternative to black. I’d like to see what it looked like with Electric Lane over the top.

Portland Place is gorgeous shade of teal, which only needed two coats. It dried quickly with a glossy finish.

Victoria Gate is possibly my favourite from the lucky dip, a lovely plum colour, which only needed two coats.

Westchester is the third and final polish from the Mad Men collection, and is a dark glossy red.

Yesterday, I went to Sunderland to take part in the ‘Biggest Team Photo’ at the Stadium of Light. Anyone who had bought the new Adidas home shirt could take part, then the players came and sat in the stand, to make it a massive team photo. I’m looking forward to seeing the photo in a couple of weeks after being freezing when it was being taken! Here are a couple of pictures I took as the players arrived;

I also got to meet some of the players afterwards (if anyone can recommend any software that could unblur these photos a little I’d appreciate it!)
