Inspired by The Oscars

If you happened to miss it, last Sunday night was the Oscars, but who could miss it when THAT selfie has so far been retweeted 3.3 MILLION times! I was in London for the Capital One Cup Final (blog to come soon!) but I recorded E! Live From The Red Carpet. I love to see what all the stars are wearing, and of course, their nails, with the mani-cam!

Zooey Deschanel’s nails from the 2013 Grammys –

My favourite mani from the Oscars was Maria Menounos, who went for grey with black and silver triangle tip details. I loved the contrast between her light dress, and dark nails, and that they weren’t too in-your-face, but were still fancy.

Maria Menounos –

For my recreation, I used Barry M Grey, Nails Inc New York Noir, and the Andrea Fullerton Stripe & Sparkle in silver.

Nude/pale pink nails seemed to be the popular choice at this years ceremony, with Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Lady Gaga all opting for pale shades.

I used 3 coats of Elizabeth Street, and one coat of HK Girl.

Lastly, another of my favourite from the night, E! presenter Kelly Osbourne’s pale nails with gold tips, giving them that subtle sparkle.

Kelly Osbourne –

Obviously I don’t have almond shaped nails like Kelly, so I had more of a square tip. I also discovered I don’t have many glittery gold polishes, so I had to go with Models Own Disco Heaven, from the HedKandi collection, which is a gold glitter with iridescent blue glitter, on top of Elizabeth Street.

Who’s mani was your favourite? Have you recreated any?

Thanks to Abbey from Julep for the blog idea, make sure you check them out! 🙂

Old Bond Street

I’ve had such a hectic week this last week! Last Tuesday, I went back to college, to start at Nail Tech course, 8 weeks for gel nails, followed by 8 weeks for acrylics. I could have cried when I was told I’d have to have a couple of my nails filed down to practise the tips on each other, even the girl filing them down felt bad! I’m trying to stick with my right hand so I can keep my left for my swatches! I don’t like wearing tips, and broke one off pretty badly last night, so I soaked the other off, leaving me with two very short nails 😦

Then, Wednesday. We travelled down to Manchester for the second leg of the Capital One Cup Semi Final, Manchester United v Sunderland. We were winning 2-1 on aggregate, and I think I went through every single emotion going that night! Just before half time, ex-loanee Jonny Evans scored, meaning that if we didn’t score, in normal time or extra time, United would go through on the away goals rule. Extra time came, and I could feel my Wembley dream slipping away, until the last couple of minutes of extra time, when Phil Bardsley scored against his former club, six years to the day since leaving them to join us. Bodies flying everywhere in the away end, we were going to Wembley, until about a minute later, when Hernandez scored, taking it to 3-3 on aggregate, and penalties (I’d lost total track of the score/away goals, and thought we were out at this point!) I certainly wasn’t looking forward to penalties, I only have bad memories from important penalty shoot outs, and it was time that changed. Obviously, being Sunderland, they missed the first two. Darren Fletcher gave United the lead, Alonso responded, Mannone saved Januzaj’s kick, Kiiiiiiiiiiiii scored. Phil Jones then missed his, meaning Adam Johnson could send us through, but De Gea saved. Thankfully it didn’t matter and Mannone saved Rafael’s penalty, sending us to WEMBLEY! Almost a week later and I still can’t believe I’m going to a cup final at Wembley, I’ve hardly stopped smiling!

Saturday, we had another cup game, this time the FA Cup 4th round, against Kidderminster, which was a terrible game, but an early goal from Charis Mavrias secured our place in the 5th Round.

All that has given me very little time to swatch, but I should hopefully get a few done this week! Before I started college on Tuesday, I got a tweet from BeautyBay to tell me I was one of their winners for their #ShowUsYourNails competition, and I won the Nails Inc Autumn Winter collection.

This is the first one I tried from the collection, Old Bond Street, and I am in love. A stunning deep inky violet blue, with a glossy finish. My pictures show three coats, but I could have gotten away with two.

Nails Inc Lucky Dip

At the December, Nails Inc had another of their lucky dip offers – 7 random polishes for £19.50 (worth £77!) This is generally the only time I buy Nails Inc polishes now, unless sites such as ASOS or BeautyBay have them on sale, but I like getting polishes I wouldn’t normally choose myself, and finding that I love them.

Royal Opera Arcade is one of the nail jewellery polishes, and is an amethyst glitter, theres micro glitter, small hex glitter, and larger hex glitter. My picture show one coat over One Big Happy Fame-ily, with no top coat.

Chester Street is a pearly beige with a touch of grey. Chester Street is also the polish I received for renewing my VIP membership. My pictures show three coats with no top coat.

Gatwick is a matte pillar box red. I’m not mad about matte, or red polish, so I’m not a big fan of this. The formula was good though, my pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Franklins Row is my favourite of the bunch. I LOVE it. It’s a gorgeous purple, with a blue shimmer. My camera didn’t pick up the blue shimmer as much as I would have liked. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Great Tichfield Street is a champagne gold foil. My pictures show three coats with no top coat.

Richmond Terrace is deep glossy chocolate brown. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Roland Gardens is an orangey red metallic. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Did you get a lucky dip? Which is your favourite?

Christmas Nail Art

Happy Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a great day!

Just a quick post about my Christmas nail art. I got my inspiration from Pinterest, and used Jess French White, Nails Inc Big Apple Red, Seven Dials, and InStyle Peach Sorbet, along with the Models Own nail art pens for the details.

Christmas Nail Art

I thought it was time I finally did some Christmas nail art! I got my inspiration from Pinterest, and a couple of nails are similar to what I did last year.

I used Barry M Retro Red, Models Own Nude Beige, Nails Inc Culross Street, and Jess French White, along with the Models Own nail art pens, and acrylic paint for the detail, topped with a coat of HK Girl.

I’m really happy with how they turned out, especially the Christmas lights!

Nails Inc – Free with Glamour Magazine

Like last year, Glamour magazine once again gave away free bottles of Nails Inc with their December issue. Obviously I had to pick up all four, who can possibly resist £44’s worth of nail polish for just £8? Bargain!

This year Glamour teamed up with Kate Spade and Nails Inc to create four exclusive shades, New York Noir, Soho Silver, Uptown Glamour and Big Apple Red.

Soho Silver is a silver foil. My pictures show three coats, with no top coat, and a lot of brush strokes!

Big Apple Red is a bright pillar box red. I’m not a huge fan of reds, but I liked this one. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Uptown Glamour is a gold foil, and like Soho Silver, had crazy brush strokes. My pictures show three coats with no top coat.

New York Noir is a classic glossy black. My photos show two coats with no top coat.

Did you pick up any, or all four like me?!

Chester Street

I recently renewed my Nails Inc VIP membership, and this was the polish I received this year. I love the VIP scheme, which is £5 for a year, and you receive a free polish, 10% off each order, a £5 voucher for your birthday, and points for each order (5 points = £5 off.) I do wish you could choose from a variety of shades though, as they always seem to be similar colours.

Chester Street is a pearly beige with a touch of grey. The formula was ok, but it did show up brush strokes. My pictures show 3 coats with no top coat.
