Inspired by The Oscars

If you happened to miss it, last Sunday night was the Oscars, but who could miss it when THAT selfie has so far been retweeted 3.3 MILLION times! I was in London for the Capital One Cup Final (blog to come soon!) but I recorded E! Live From The Red Carpet. I love to see what all the stars are wearing, and of course, their nails, with the mani-cam!

Zooey Deschanel’s nails from the 2013 Grammys –

My favourite mani from the Oscars was Maria Menounos, who went for grey with black and silver triangle tip details. I loved the contrast between her light dress, and dark nails, and that they weren’t too in-your-face, but were still fancy.

Maria Menounos –

For my recreation, I used Barry M Grey, Nails Inc New York Noir, and the Andrea Fullerton Stripe & Sparkle in silver.

Nude/pale pink nails seemed to be the popular choice at this years ceremony, with Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Lady Gaga all opting for pale shades.

I used 3 coats of Elizabeth Street, and one coat of HK Girl.

Lastly, another of my favourite from the night, E! presenter Kelly Osbourne’s pale nails with gold tips, giving them that subtle sparkle.

Kelly Osbourne –

Obviously I don’t have almond shaped nails like Kelly, so I had more of a square tip. I also discovered I don’t have many glittery gold polishes, so I had to go with Models Own Disco Heaven, from the HedKandi collection, which is a gold glitter with iridescent blue glitter, on top of Elizabeth Street.

Who’s mani was your favourite? Have you recreated any?

Thanks to Abbey from Julep for the blog idea, make sure you check them out! 🙂

Models Own Sale Haul – Part 2

Finally part two of my sale haul from Models Own! I’m late posting this because my delivery too longer than expected, and four weeks of having gel nails practised on me at college has pretty much destroyed my nails! Particularly my left hand, my nails are super short, and feel so weak and bendy. But, now they get some time to recover as there’s no more practising on each other until we start the acrylics after Easter.

So, over the last couple of days I’ve been swatching like crazy (I had about 30 polishes to swatch!) so I’m going to have a lot of scheduled posts to keep me going (and I’ll try and keep on top of it this time, although I always say that!)

Naked Glow HyperGel is a nude creme, perfect formula, with a glossy finish. My pictures show two coats with no top coat (I didn’t notice the hair on my ring finger until I was editing!)

Red Lustre HyperGel is the perfect glossy pillar box red. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

White Light HyperGel is the only HyperGel I tried that I was a little disappointed with, I hoped it would be a two coater like the rest, but it was a little streaky, and needed three. My pictures show three coats with no top coat.

Absinthe is from the Velvet Goth Collection, and has a deep inky green base, with green and turquoise micro glitter, and larger green hex glitter. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

With one coat of HK Girl.

Bora Bora is from the HedKandi collection, and is a gold micro glitter. My pictures show three coats with no top coat.

In The Navy is a deep navy blue jelly. The formula was good, but it stained around my cuticles so definitely needs a basecoat! My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Sophie’s Pink is a bright hot pink creme with a glossy finish. My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Disco Mix is one of my favourites from my haul. It’s a pretty purple and blue glitter, which built up well. My picture show three coats with no top coat.

Freak Betty is one of the Models Own Artstix, made up from Betty Blue and Freak Out. I used two coats of Betty Blue and one coat of Freak Out, with no coat.

Did you get anything from the Models Own 50% sale?

Models Own Sale Haul – Part 1

I have quite a few polishes to blog about from the Models Own 50% sale, so I thought it would be easier to put them into two blog posts, rather than one massive one, or loads of individual ones!

First up are three of the new HyperGel collection, which I absolutely love.

Blue Glint HyperGel is a bright sky blue creme. The formula was brilliant, great coverage in two coats, with a glossy finish.

My pictures show two coats with no top coat. I did have a slight issue with staining around the cuticles, so I’d recommend a base coat for this one.

Turquoise Gloss is a light creme green. The first coat was a little streaky but the second evened it out perfectly.

My pictures show two coats with no top coat.

Cornflower Gleam is one of my favourites, a gorgeous light, lilacy blue creme.  The formula was a little more sheer than the other two, and I needed three coats for full coverage.

My picture show three coats with no top coat.

As you can see, the HyperGel’s have a great glossy finish. I’m really impressed with them, and I’m looking forward to swatching the others from my haul!

Amethyst is from the velvet goth collection. I feel like it should have a more unusual name when you look at the others from the collection! Amethyst is deep inky purple, with a mixture of different sized purple glitter, some small blue glitter, and dries to a matte finish.

My pictures show two coats, with no top coat.

Like Valerian, I wasn’t mad on this matte, so I added one coat of HK Girl.

Snow Mix is one of the Artstix. I didn’t realise when I ordered this that it was just Snow White and Ibiza Mix, which I have in bottles anyway, but never mind, with the 50% off it was only £3!

My pictures show three coats of Snow White, and one coat of Ibiza Mix, with no top coat.

Did you get anything from the 50% sale? There’s still time if you haven’t!

Look out for part 2 of my haul in the next few days 🙂

Derby Day Nails

Today was that day again, derby day. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know when it’s time for Sunderland to play Newcastle, I have to have red and white themed nails!

A little about the game first, because we won 0-3 (again!) Fabio Borini started the scoring with a penalty, followed by an Adam Johnson goal less than 5 minutes later. Jack Colback completed the scoring late on, securing our 3rd consecutive derby victory!

I’m up there, close to the line of orange stewards on the left!

It was my friends first away derby, I think he enjoyed it!

For my nails, I got my inspiration from pinterest, and used Julie G Hot Cinnamon, and OPI Solitaire.

I’ve got quite a lot to get swatched at the minute, mainly because of Models Own’s huge 50% off sale, and my massive haul! If you haven’t already, make sure you don’t miss out, even their new HyperGel’s are included! The sale ends February 4th.

Christmas Nail Art

Happy Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a great day!

Just a quick post about my Christmas nail art. I got my inspiration from Pinterest, and used Jess French White, Nails Inc Big Apple Red, Seven Dials, and InStyle Peach Sorbet, along with the Models Own nail art pens for the details.

Christmas Nail Art

I thought it was time I finally did some Christmas nail art! I got my inspiration from Pinterest, and a couple of nails are similar to what I did last year.

I used Barry M Retro Red, Models Own Nude Beige, Nails Inc Culross Street, and Jess French White, along with the Models Own nail art pens, and acrylic paint for the detail, topped with a coat of HK Girl.

I’m really happy with how they turned out, especially the Christmas lights!

In August, Models Own released their Velvet Goth collection, five polishes, which are matte yet sparkly at the same time. Each bottle also has a limited edition, colour matched velvet lid. Valerian was the first one I bought, and has an inky blue base, with tiny black and blue hex glitter, and larger blue hex glitter. My pictures show two coats.

I wasn’t mad about it matte, so I added a coat of HK Girl, and it gave it that little something extra which made me love it.

Have you tried any of the Velvet Goth collection? Which is your favourite? I love the look of Absinthe and Amethyst.
