Inspired by The Oscars

If you happened to miss it, last Sunday night was the Oscars, but who could miss it when THAT selfie has so far been retweeted 3.3 MILLION times! I was in London for the Capital One Cup Final (blog to come soon!) but I recorded E! Live From The Red Carpet. I love to see what all the stars are wearing, and of course, their nails, with the mani-cam!

Zooey Deschanel’s nails from the 2013 Grammys –

My favourite mani from the Oscars was Maria Menounos, who went for grey with black and silver triangle tip details. I loved the contrast between her light dress, and dark nails, and that they weren’t too in-your-face, but were still fancy.

Maria Menounos –

For my recreation, I used Barry M Grey, Nails Inc New York Noir, and the Andrea Fullerton Stripe & Sparkle in silver.

Nude/pale pink nails seemed to be the popular choice at this years ceremony, with Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Lady Gaga all opting for pale shades.

I used 3 coats of Elizabeth Street, and one coat of HK Girl.

Lastly, another of my favourite from the night, E! presenter Kelly Osbourne’s pale nails with gold tips, giving them that subtle sparkle.

Kelly Osbourne –

Obviously I don’t have almond shaped nails like Kelly, so I had more of a square tip. I also discovered I don’t have many glittery gold polishes, so I had to go with Models Own Disco Heaven, from the HedKandi collection, which is a gold glitter with iridescent blue glitter, on top of Elizabeth Street.

Who’s mani was your favourite? Have you recreated any?

Thanks to Abbey from Julep for the blog idea, make sure you check them out! 🙂

Christmas Nail Art

I thought it was time I finally did some Christmas nail art! I got my inspiration from Pinterest, and a couple of nails are similar to what I did last year.

I used Barry M Retro Red, Models Own Nude Beige, Nails Inc Culross Street, and Jess French White, along with the Models Own nail art pens, and acrylic paint for the detail, topped with a coat of HK Girl.

I’m really happy with how they turned out, especially the Christmas lights!

Princess is another polish from Barry M’s Royal Glitter Collection, and is a peachy pink polish, with a gold shimmer.

The formula was great, and dried quickly. My pictures show three coats.

One coat of HK Girl gave Princess a lovely sparkle!

Do you have any of the Royal Glitter collection? Which is your favourite?

Halloween Nails

A few days ago, my cousin asked if I would do her nails for Halloween, so I went looking for a few ideas, and practised some on a nail wheel. I did a few last year, but tried out a few different designs this year.

I decided to do my own nails as well while I was on, and this was what I came up with.

I think the only one I was a little disappointed with was the ‘Boo!’ on my right hand, because I’m right handed and struggled to write it with my left!

And these are how I did my cousins nails.

For both mine and my cousins, I used Barry M Block Orange and Black, Models Own Purple Blue, Pukka Purple and Snow White and Ciate´Mojito. I also used Barry M Lychee and red acrylic pain for the dripping blood on my little finger, and I used OPI Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI? for the base on my cousins right ring finger. For all of the details I used the Models Own nail art pens.

The ‘patchwork’ nail was inspired by The Nailasaurus, check out the tutorial here.

Have you done any Halloween inspired nails? I love all the possibilities there is!

Countess is another of Barry M’s Royal Glitter collection. In the bottle (and in my swatches) it looks quite brown, but its a deep purple, with a copper and gold shimmer. The formula was perfect, and I only needed two coats. It dried quickly to the matte textured finish.

After I’d worn Countess for a couple of days, (excuse the tip wear!) I added two coats of HK Girl top coat.

Have you tried any of Barry M’s Royal Glitter collection?

A few days ago I mentioned that my new Barry M polishes I ordered from ASOS were broken before they were delivered. ASOS sent me some replacements, and they arrived the other day, and here if one of them.

Barry M recently released their Royal Glitter collection, 5 textured glitters, with the effect being similar to that of OPI’s liquid sand. Duchess is pretty rose gold glitter, with larger silver glitter. The formula was great, and I only needed two coats. The texture is more ‘bumpy’ rather than rough or gritty.

Of course if you don’t like textured polish, you can add top coat. Here’s Duchess with two coats of HK Girl top coat.

Pretty in Pink

This mani was inspired by a picture I saw on Instagram, by cutepolish. I decided to change the order around a little, and I also chose to have another go at a fishtail on my ring finger, rather than the pattern on the thumb. The fishtail was not easy with a thick white polish! It was a lot easier with the silver I used last time.

For this mani I used Barry M Matt White, Nails Inc Brompton Place, Butter London Rosie Lee and OPI Kiss Me On My Tulips. I also used the pink and white Barry M nail art pens for the stripes, polka dots and part of the leopard print.
